Bits from blue steel are made from a mix of various materials, also called alloys. This gives a sweet taste. The mouthpiece of these bits have a blue colour. When the bit is used, the blue layer starts to oxidise, turning orange/brown in colour from rust. This (rust) colour gives that sweet taste. A sweet taste promotes salivation and acceptance of the bit.
